What is
PTO?
The Deerfield Parent Teacher Organization is a group of
parents, teachers, and staff that meet the second Monday of each month to plan
and organize school events, learn about our children’s education, and bring
awareness of issues to the school staff.
Some of the things we do:
Open House: plan meal for teachers/staff that stay to prepare,
organize refreshments for families.
Market Day: monthly food sale that profits our school and
gives each grade a chance to earn money that directly goes to their
classroom. Since 1993, Market Day has
brought over $44,000.00 to our Elementary School.
PTO Room Rep
Coordinating: This is a phone call list that is organized
to get volunteers for events.
Enrichments: These are
assemblies that are held in the gym for the school. Over 75% of our fundraising money goes towards enrichment
programs such as the Star lab, Parts is Parts Health show, Opera for the Young,
The Science Guy, Animal Encounters, Science Sensation 2004, and many more.
Teacher Appreciation Week: A weeklong
theme oriented celebration for our teachers and staff. Meals are planned for each day as well as
fun and games for the teachers to earn prizes.
Santa’s Secret
Shop: This is a shop set up for the students to purchase
reasonably priced gifts for their family.
Usually takes place early December.
Student Directory: PTO sends
out forms and prints a student directory for each student to have at home.
End of Year
Party/Character Education Day: Fun day for students and staff. Children participate in outdoor events in
the am, Picnic lunch, ice cream social and dance in the PM.
“Christmas in the
Country” Craft Fair: This is our only fundraising event. We earn most of our money through this
event. Volunteers are a must to keep this going. Registration, raffle, prize donation, publicity, childcare, etc.
PTO Meetings are usually
held on the 2nd Monday of every month, except December, during the
school year. We meet at 6:30 PM in the
Elementary School Library. Babysitting
is available.
Volunteers are always
needed as well as new ideas, so please come see what PTO is all about!
