Art
LEARN. EXPLORE. CREATE.
The function of the art
program is to encourage and promote creative learning by allowing children to
personally express themselves. Through
actively engaging in the use of different art materials, children are able to discover,
experiment, and create, thus helping them learn about themselves and the world
around them—something so vital to their growth and development. At DES, your child has art once a week for 60
minutes. What they create during art
class is a part of them—please take the time to talk to them about their
artwork and hang it up in your home!
Nature in Art
DES Art Program Theme for 2010-11
“Great art picks up where nature ends.”
-Marc
Chagall
Welcome back
to another great year of art class!! The
theme for 2010-11 is “Nature in Art,” based on the quote above by the famous
Russian painter. Throughout the year,
there will be visuals displayed by the art room that show how artists have used
the subject of nature. Each grade will learn
about a famous nature related artwork and create a project about it. There will also be books and other activities
available to students during art class that explore this theme. Watch for these projects and ideas to come
home, and if you want, see if you can help promote this theme in your own household—go
on a nature walk, create crafts from natural objects, like shells, sand, or pine
cones, or even take some paper and make a sketch or drawing outside!! Nature is an integral part of our lives that is
often taken for granted, so this year, challenge yourself and your family to
pay attention to all the wonderful “natural” art that we have all around us, each
and everyday!!
